Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi's Son Killed With Four Other Militants In Hajin Encounter

A commando of Indian Air Force was killed and an army man was injured

"Based on specific information, the joint operation was launched by CRPF, Army, J&K Police in which six terrorists were eliminated, all were foreign terrorists".

In a sudden escalation of violence across Kashmir Valley on Saturday, the banned Lashkar-e-Tayyeba (LeT) outfit received a major jolt as security forces shot dead six of its terrorists in a meticulous operation while losing an Indian Air Force (IAF) commando.

The appeal came a day after six Pakistanis militants were killed in a gun fight on Saturday and a few days after a young footballer who joined militant ranks came back home after a video of his tearful mother was shared on social media. "The cold brought them out of the woods and they took refuge in a house and were spotted", the sources said.

Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, Lt Gen J S Sandhu was speaking at a joint press conference here.

The GoC claimed the killings of six foreign militants in Hajin had "decimated" the top LeT leadership in Kashmir. He is being held responsible in getting over 2000 terrorists and hundreds of their supporters and sympathisers killed. He was active in north Kashmir before zeroing in on the Hajin area this year, they said. An IAF Garud commando was killed and an army soldier was also injured in the encounter, he said.

The army on Sunday informed that 190 militants were killed this year in J&K, including 110 foreigners, which has resulted in a remarkable change in the situation across the Valley.

The GoC informed that almost 210 militants were now active in the valley among whom 100 were foreigners.

The security forces were keeping a watch on the Chandergeer area where the encounter took place, he said.

DGP Vaid played down Islamic State's claim of carrying out an attack in Zakura on the outskirts of Srinagar in which a militant and a policeman were killed on November 17. "The local terrorists must realize that it is easy to call yourself a Mujahid". "Hajin was witness to terror for the previous year or so". "I am sure the people will have a sigh of relief and they would lead a life free of terror", he said.

Jammu and Kashmir DGP SP Vaid said Kashmir valley needs to be free from violence, terror, guns and drugs.

Police sources said Owaid had entered the Valley previous year through Kupwara or Gurez, along with a group of militants.

IG CRPF Zulfikar Hassan said that the same militants had targeted CRPF Commander Chetan kumar Cheeta at Hajin in April.

On October 11, 2017, two LeT terrorists - Ali Bhai of Pakistan and Nasrullah Mir of Hajin - got killed in an encounter at Paribal (Hajin).

Inspector General of Police, Muneer Ahmad Khan said all the forces in synergy were "focusing on All-Out mission".
