Jerry Jones apologizes for racially inappropriate comment

FILE NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones

"Congratulations on the wedding".

Jones had planned the meeting with the hope to halt the negotiations regarding the extension of Goodell's contract for another five years.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made a racial comment to a fan in a Dallas hotel after the man asked for a congratulatory message for his new fiancée.

But Jones' conflict with Goodell and the league office isn't new, either.

The Cowboys owner had been in a feud with Goodell since August, when the Commissioner suspended Dallas Cowboys' running back Ezekiel Elliot over accusations of domestic violence against his girlfriend in 2016.

Instead, when Goodell called days later to tell Jones, ESPN says Jones paused then responded, referencing Patriots owner Robert Kraft and the deflategate scandal.

Super Eagles overcome Argentina with superb display
Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has cautioned his team to "stay humble" after they came from behind to defeat Argentina 4-2 in a friendly game on Tuesday.

In fact, given that the league has seen an unprecedented downturn in profits and popularity on Goodell's watch, why doesn't the Competition Committee write a letter explaining why Goodell should get a contract extension? Goodell handed Elliott a six-game suspension, which is the baseline for a first offender under the league's policy.

Elliott's suspension was apparently the final straw, but the article cited other issues Jones had with Goodell, including the league's response to the players protesting the national anthem, the drop in TV ratings and the commissioner's disciplinary power.

The league even recently sent a letter to Jones's attorney accusing the 75-year-old of "conduct detrimental to the league's best interests", as it was reported earlier this week.

"I won't cast judgment, on one moment when a joke went south, to capture who this man represents in a lifetime commitment of love and compassion to all ethnicities", Sanders said.

The WSJ also added that the owners on the compensation committee have already denied Jones' request for a meeting, which he had hoped would held on November 28. He called those claims ridiculous.
