Self-driving bus crashes in first hour of service

A self-driving bus debuted in downtown Las Vegas on Nov. 8 2017

None of the eight passengers aboard the driverless vehicle suffered injuries and neither did the truck driver. Las Vegas officials provided details on the incident, describing it as being so minor that the shuttle was merely "grazed" by the truck.

The autonomous shuttle was testing today when it was grazed by a delivery truck downtown.

Pictures have emerged of the moment a driverless shuttle bus was involved in a crash with a semi-truck less than two hours after it made its debut on Las Vegas streets in front of cameras and celebrities. "Had the truck had the same sensing equipment that the shuttle has the accident would have been avoided". "Unfortunately the human element, the driver of the truck, didn't stop". Within an hour, the shuttle was already involved in a crash.

In addition to studying how the shuttle interacts in a live traffic environment in downtown Las Vegas' busy Innovation District, AAA will survey riders on their experience in order to understand why a large percentage of consumers remain wary of driverless technology, and whether a personal experience changes their perception. In return, the company will donate $1 per every passenger who rides the shuttle to those affected by the mass shooting in Las Vegas that took place in October.

This shuttle bus can transport up to 15 people and was aimed to be used on the city's famous strip.

Study shows sheep can recognize celebrity faces
Morton and her colleagues released eight sheep one-by-one into a pen outfitted with two computer screens. These woolly creatures grasped this recognition skill after going through three scenarios of training.

The eight-passenger shuttle is now offering free rides to people along a half-mile loop in the city's Fremont East "Innovation District".

It's touted by Las Vegas as the country's first autonomous shuttle that's able to communicate with traffic signals and surrounding "smart" infrastructure.

A spokesman for the City of Las Vegas told the BBC: "A delivery truck was coming out of an alley".

The city, along with AAA and partners Keolis, have been hyping up the launch of the autonomous shuttle program all day, promising free rides to willing participants. "Human error causes most traffic collisions and this was no different", he said "Driver of truck was cited".
