Trump's Twitter Deactivation Leads to Security Scrutiny

People Are Calling a Rogue Twitter Employee Who Deactivated Trump's Account a Hero

San Francisco: Twitter announced Friday it has implemented "safeguards" in the wake of the rogue shutdown of President Donald Trump's account, to ward off any repeat.

Twitter later clarified that the employee that closed down the account was on his last day on the job, but did not elaborate whether the action was intentional.

Twitter in response to concerns said it would be "conducting a full internal review". We won't be able to share all details about our internal investigation or updates to our security measures, but we take this seriously and our teams are on it.

Trump's Twitter account has 41.7 million followers, making him one of the influential characters on the US social network. Some Twitter users blocked by the account have sued in court, demanding access to the account's tweets, which have been deemed official public statements.

Another person familiar with Twitter operations, speaking on condition of anonymity, said employees now can not post from a user's account, change or even view a user's password, which is encrypted.

There's "just a tool that naturally a small group of people for safety and abuse and hacking etc have access to that got abused by one person for eleven minutes", the former Twitter executive told CNN.

Dolphins send Ajayi to Eagles for draft pick
The performance drew criticism from Dolphins coach Adam Gase, who did not mention Ajayi by name. He was drafted in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Dolphins.

The discovery highlights a hard issue for Twitter, as well as other technology companies that rely on large amounts of contract workers to handle sensitive work. Twitter tightened the circle of people who could access it. While many cheered the attempt at halting the controversial tweets, others expressed concerned at the lack of control Twitter had over its own service.

The rogue Twitter employee hailed as a social media hero for shutting down the President's account was hired as a contract worker, according to new reports.

While the companies "are desperately reliant upon human nuance and sophistication for decision making, human will is quite a risk", Sarah Roberts, a UCLA professor who studies such contractors, said in a tweet. It was the latest in a string of iterative changes amid criticism the platform too slowly and inconsistently responds to abuse.

Twitter has been internally investigating how Trump's infamous account went offline for 11 minutes on Thursday night. "I guess the word must finally be getting out-and having an impact", Trump tweeted on Friday.

The statement left many question from the tech community and Washington unanswered, including how many people had access to Trump's account and what were the security protocols in dealing with accounts of influential personalities, especially those related to US national security.
