Suicide bomber strikes diplomatic area in Afghanistan’s Kabul many feared dead

Afghan media reported the explosion took place in the city's Wazir Akbar Khan area. At least 13 people were killed, 13 more were wounded.

General Dawlat Waziri, spokesman for the Defense Ministry, said the bomber was on foot.

A suicide bomber detonated his explosives inside the Green Zone in Kabul city on Tuesday, killing at least five people and injuring almost two dozens other.

It was the first attack targeting the Afghan capital's "Green Zone" since a massive truck bomb ripped through the area on May 31, killing or wounding hundreds, and prompting authorities to strengthen protection. Yet, it was no immediate clear who the target of the attack was.

Afghan and Western security officials have said in recent days that they expected more attacks in Kabul in response to pressure being exerted on the Taliban and other insurgent groups by increased USA air strikes.
