Wisconsin added 5,900 private sector jobs in September, but the state's unemployment rate continued an upward trend that started in July, according to data released by the Department of Workforce Development.

The preliminary nonfarm payroll jobs estimate for ME was up 3,400 jobs from a year earlier to 621,200 jobs in September, the department said.

But the Nebraska Department of Labor says the number is less a reflection of more people being hired as it is having less available workers. The Norfolk area actually lost 136 jobs over the last month.

Kern's unemployment remains far above the unadjusted rate for California of 4.7 percent and the unadjusted national rate of 4.1 percent. Annual gains since 2016 were up across the board, including 7,300 jobs added in trade, transportation and utilities.

The commonwealth's unemployment rate remained above that of the United States, which dropped two-tenths of a percentage point to 4.2 percent in September.
