Trump calls to 'keep America safe' citing rising United Kingdom crime rate

Police investigate at the scene of a shooting in Portbury England

Trump's tweet continued a tradition of looking across the pond only to see terrorism, with his previous Britain-centered comments claiming that police were afraid of radicalized citizens and criticizing London Mayor Sadiq Khan in the immediate aftermath of attacks.

President Donald Trump incorrectly suggested there is a link Friday between rising crime rates in the United Kingdom and the "spread of Radical Islamic terror". However, it does note that there was a "substantial increase" -59 percent - in the number of attempted murder offences over the past year, due largely to the London and Manchester terror attacks.

According to the Guardian, the crime statistic recorded by the ONS said there was a "13 percent increase in all police-recorded offenses across England and Wales".

President Trump blamed an increase in crime on "radical Islamic terror" in the United Kingdom, though the number of homicides actually went down.

"While improvements made by police forces in recording crime are still a factor in the increase, we judge that there have been genuine increases in crime, particularly in some of the low-incidence but more harmful categories", a spokesperson for the ONS said, prior to Trump's tweet.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte dismisses rumours of unrest over training schedule
Chelsea have three winnable games before playing at Roma on October 31 and at home to United in the Premier League on November 5. I spoke to him about everything. " The most important thing to do is to work, always to have this enthusiasm ".

Confusingly, there are two sets of crime figures produced in England and Wales. But those 329 cases account for less than 1/100th of a percent of the total number of crimes recorded in the report.

Annual comparisons aren't available until January. There has also been a 29 percent rise in hate crimes. Updated figures are expected to be released next year. The German BfV, the domestic security agency, defines these people as radical extremists it believes are willing and able to carry out an attack - but who can't be arrested because they haven't yet committed a crime, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

Trump has repeatedly pointed to terror attacks in Europe as evidence of the risk from jihadist groups in the US.

He appeared to tie the report to his efforts to restrict travel into the United States, tweeting, "we must keep America safe!"
