Fox News Taken By Fake Navy SEAL

John Garofalo falsely claimed he was a Vietnam veteran a member of the first U.S. Navy SEAL team and a decorated war hero who was awarded two Purple Hearts

Garofalo was first ousted after retired Navy SEAL Don Shipley contacted Fox News the day after the segment aired.

Garofalo, a 72-year-old NY glassmaker, became instafamous for a now-retracted viral Fox News segment aired October 8, in which he was extolled for the mammoth glass presidential seal he'd constructed as a tribute to POTUS 45.

While Garofalo did serve in the Navy, he was never a member of the SEALs, he never received even one Purple Heart and the closest he got to Vietnam was Spain. He was never a SEAL.

His sole decoration was a National Defense Service Medal, which is awarded to any service member who serves honorably during a "national emergency", including during the Vietnam War.

Although he served in the Navy during the time of the Vietnam War, his service lasting from 1963 to 1967, the NY resident got nowhere near Southeast Asia, his work as an aviation boatswain's mate bringing him only as close as Spain. "I have hope for him and I have hope for the country".

"Garofalo is used to working under pressure", Fox News' Bryan Llenas had said in a voice over in the original segment. "And we certainly hope maybe the president is listening".

"Fox News not withdrawing that story has drove me nutty", Shipley told Navy Times, according to the military news organization.

Trump sends check to fallen soldier's father
The Trump administration has since said General Kelly is "disgusted" that dealing with military deaths has become "politicised" . The Washington Post reported Wednesday that Trump had not yet sent a personal gift of $25,000 to the family of Army Cpl.

But when Navy Times contacted Mr. Garofalo Thursday to confirm his story, he admitted he had "lied and never served in Vietnam, never received a Purple Heart and was never a SEAL". The segment went viral online, racking up 1.5 million views on the Fox News Facebook page.

"It got bigger and bigger", Garofalo said.

Fox also issued a lengthy statement, claiming it hadn't investigated Garofalo's military past before the segment aired because he claimed it was "covert". It was first discovered by former Navy SEALs.

"What I did I'm ashamed of, and I didn't mean to cause so much disgrace to the SEALs", says the 72-year-old Garofalo, noting his lies about his service have gotten "bigger and bigger" over the years.

Today, almost two weeks after its initial report, Fox News officially posted a retraction, which Llenas also sheepishly read on-air this morning in what the on-air host gamely called a "quick correction".

"It is true that Garofalo is a glass artist and a veteran".

If Fox News wants to use its time and energy to push out inane puff pieces on a veteran's transformation from decorated servicemember to MAGA-philic glass carving enthusiast, that's their prerogative.
