Trump sends check to fallen soldier's father

A grieving military father says Trump offered him $25000 after his son was killed and didn't follow through

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that Trump had not yet sent a personal gift of $25,000 to the family of Army Cpl.

Chris Baldridge said that, for him, it's less about the money and more about feeling like his country let him down after his son was killed by the Afghan soldier he was training.

During his call with Trump, Baldridge, who is a construction worker, said he was frustrated with the military's survivor benefits program, which sends a death gratuity of $100,000 to the beneficiary.

"I wish I had it recorded because the man did say this".

Mr Trump vehemently denied the Congresswoman's interpretation of the conversation and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders later commented that "just because the President said 'your guy, ' I don't think that means he doesn't know his name".

The White House confirms it sent the check out as the Washington Post was reporting the story. She did, however, insist "t$3 he check has been sent", adding: "It's disgusting that the media is taking something that should be recognized as a generous and honest gesture, made privately by the President, and using it to advance the media's biased agenda".

Trump's relationship with families of fallen soldiers has been scrutinized in recent days-particularly after he falsely claimed that President Barack Obama did not call family members of soldiers who were killed in action.

Ms Wilson said: 'Basically he said, "Well, I guess he knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurt"'.

In Austria are early parliamentary elections
The FPOe was founded by ex-Nazis following the end of the Second World War and nearly won the presidency last December. Some 6.4 million people are eligible to vote in the closely-watched ballot which is expected to be a tight race.

The White House said it was "disgusting" that the media would exploit the issue. "I did not say what she said". "He could have just said, "I'm sorry for your loss" and 'We really appreciate your service and your sacrifice, have a nice day'".

But Mr Baldridge was left disappointed after later receiving a letter of condolence and no cheque, as promised.

The Trump administration has since said General Kelly is "disgusted" that dealing with military deaths has become "politicised".

Trump has been in hot water for comments surrounding phone calls to the families of soldiers who died in action for the past two weeks.

The Post reported that White House officials declined to discuss the matter when contacted Wednesday morning.

Cowanda Jones-Johnson, the soldier's mother, told The Post earlier on Wednesday that Wilson's account of the conversation was accurate.

"It's not something I should advertise, but it has happened", Obama told the Washington Post's Eli Saslow, who wrote a book profiling some of the people who'd detailed their struggles in letters to the then-president. But he didn't actually make the donation until months later - after reporters hounded him about it.

Trump is also not the first president to be tardy in sending a promised check.
