#WomanBoycottTwitter as Rose McGowan's account gets suspended

Advertising consultant Cindy Gallop, founder of the USA division of advertising firm Bartie Bogle Hegarty, is leading calls for a day long Twitter boycott led by women until midnight tonight in a show of solidarity with actress Rose McGowan - who was handed a 12-hour suspension for tweeting a private phone number.

The Charmed actress, one of the women named in The New York Times expose of Weinstein's reported sexual misconduct, has been vocal on social media in recent days and used the platform to attack those she views as complicit, including The Weinstein Company's board of directors and actor Ben Affleck.

"But along with support came some backlash from women who disagreed with the boycott tactic and encouraged Twitter users to "#AmplifyWomen" instead.

"They shut down Rose McGowan but not this dude", she tweeted, with images of abusive messages. "I TOLD HIM TO STOP DOING THAT" you said that to my face.

"We want to explain that her account was temporarily locked because one of her Tweets included a private phone number, which violates our Terms of Service".

Six Reasons Why Raila Bowed Out of the Presidential Race
It was not immediately clear whether the election will go ahead or whether Kenyatta will automatically be declared president. Last week, the IEBC told Odinga that they can not meet his demands due to tight timelines and binding legal contracts.

McGowan's account was only suspended for 12 hours, and she made her followers aware of what had happened via her Instagram account.

"Calling white women allies to recognise conflict of #WomenBoycottTwitter for women of colous who haven't received support on similar issues", she tweeted. "I said I was proof", she claimed. The company added that it is now in touch with McGowan. We will be clearer about these policies and decisions in the future.

"Starts now", Scandal's Kerry Washington tweeted before going off the Twitter grid on Friday morning.

The company's official account also tweeted: "We stand with the courageous women and men who use Twitter to share their stories, and will work hard every day to improve our processes to protect those voices".
