Monarch Airlines goes bust thousands left stranded

The brand - which is the UK's fifth biggest airline - grounded all flights at 4am today (2 October) when accountancy firm KPMG placed it into administration.

The statutory corporation which oversees and regulates all aspects of civil aviation in the United Kingdom has said it is working with the government to secure a fleet of more than 30 aircraft to bring the passengers back to the UK.

Almost 2,000 employees were laid off on Monday, while three quarters of a million people were left with booked tickets but no flights. Customers with bookings made after 15 December 2016 are not entitled to make a claim to the CAA as these flights are not ATOL protected.

Package holidays booked directly with Monarch Holidays are ATOL protected, meaning that a full refund will be issued.

The National Civil Aviation Agency has said it is working with its British counterparts to ensure the return of passengers left stranded in the United Kingdom following the collapse of Monarch Airlines.

Customers affected by the company's collapse have been urged to check the dedicated website monarch.caa.co.uk for advice and information on flights back to the UK.

Simon says he was told there's a lack of planes available to cope with the situation as some have been dispatched to help with relief of the hurricane aftermath.
