J&K: 2 children killed in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Poonch

J&K Child killed five civilians injured as Pakistan violates ceasefire in Poonch

A police statement said firing had killed a 10-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl.

Two seriously injured villagers, including a five-year-old minor girl, were airlifted to Jammu Medical college hospital amid continuous shelling in the forward area.

Indian troops guarding the border effectively retaliated, the spokesman said.

"A strong concern has been expressed at continued unprovoked firing by Pakistani forces across Line of Control and worldwide boundary in violation of 2003 ceasefire understanding", it added further.

India has said that it carried out a surgical strike on terrorist sites in Pakistan-held territory in September previous year after a terrorist attack in the Uri sector of Kashmir that killed 18 Indian soldiers.

Kashmiri resistance groups in Jammu-Kashmir have been fighting against Indian rule for independence, or for unification with neighboring Pakistan. A week ago Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat had said, "We will bury them (the infiltrators) 2 feet below the ground if they try to cross the borders". "It is high time India and Pakistan took concrete steps to resolve the issue so as to ensure lasting peace in the region".

The injured included a five-year-old, Zobia Kousar. "They don't want to leave their houses and cattle", he said.

Asked whether people living close to LoC in Poonch have been relocated, Zargar said the administration had identified places, where the people could be relocated but the border people are reluctant to leave their places.

On September 27, one civilian embraced martyrdom and four others were wounded after Indian forces resorted to firing in the Nakyal sector of Azad Kashmir.

According to local reports, the Pakistan Army started shelling soon after border residents finished morning prayers around 6.30 am.
