Trump says Tillerson 'wasting his time' pursuing negotiations with North Korea

Trump says Tillerson 'wasting his time' pursuing negotiations with North Korea

Earlier in the day, an unidentified spokesperson for North Korea's Asia-Pacific Peace Committee threw a personal insult at Trump, saying he will face destruction due to his stupidity.

Asked whether North Korea would come to the negotiating table, the secretary of state said: "We are probing, so stay tuned".

Tillerson had on Saturday raised hopes for a possible dialogue with the reclusive regime, speaking of direct lines of communication with North Korea in a bid to "calm things down" after months of escalating rhetoric over Pyongyang's reckless nuclear and missile push. "We have a couple, three, channels open to Pyongyang; we can talk to them; we do talk to them", Tillerson said.

"The first time I would have the opportunity to sit with the North Koreans it would be to say what do you want to talk about, because we haven't even got that far yet", Tillerson told reporters on Saturday in Beijing.

He said the US had "a couple of, three channels open to Pyongyang". North Korea's foreign minister also said that Trump's comments made the possibility of a missile attack on the USA mainland "all the more inevitable". "We can talk to them, we do talk to them". "There is nearly no one aligning with North Korea on this nuclear program of theirs".

Chinese President Xi Jinping (R) meets with visiting U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Beijing, capital of China, Sept. 30, 2017. After announcing new US sanctions last month on North Korea, he also acknowledged diplomacy was still possible, asking: "Why not?" At the time, Trump tweeted that, while he appreciated China's efforts, they have "not worked out".

How Westbrook's deal could shape the Thunder
The Thunder confirmed they had signed Westbrook to a multiyear extension in a news release Friday afternoon. Westbrook , the number four overall pick in the 2008 draft, beat out runner-up Harden to win MVP honors.

Speaking after a day of talks with China's President Xi Jinping and top diplomats, Tillerson told reporters that USA officials are in touch with Pyongyang. "Whether through diplomacy or force is up to the regime", tweeted spokeswoman Heather Nauert.

Another day, another chapter in the ongoing escalation of tensions between the United States and North Korea. North Korea's endgame has always included direct talks with the U.S. - talks that would eventually end with the United States acknowledging their nuclear program.

About 28,500 USA servicemembers are based in the South. "They're a little overheated right now, and I think we need to calm them down first". Obviously it would help for North Korea to stop firing off missiles.

In Washington, the State Department said that while such communications channels do exist North Korea has shown no interest in talking about giving up its nuclear weapons.

The war of words has escalated between Kim and Trump in recent weeks, with Trump labeling Kim "Rocket Man", and saying in his first speech to the United Nations that the US would "totally destroy" North Korea if it attacks.
