Air France flight with engine damage makes emergency landing

The Air France Airbus A380 suffered extensive damage of its number four engine

Air France confirms that the A380 landed safely at Goose Bay at 15:42 GMT "following serious damage" to one of its engines. "You could definitely tell something was different and it wasn't just turbulence", one passenger told the Daily News.

Photos showed damage to the outboard engine on the right wing.

Eamigh, 37, who was returning from a business trip, described the sensation that followed as a pervasive humming feeling, entirely unlike the side-to-side motion of turbulence. "We had a quick drop, and that obviously made someone yell, and we were white-knuckling our chairs". "Someone screamed, and from there we knew something was wrong", she said, adding that the trembling stopped about 10 minutes later. "It was a whiplash moment".

One of the plane's four engine had "serious damage", but no further details about the damages were released.

The landing left debris scattered on the runway.

The Goose Bay airport is a local airport and is not built for larger planes, and certainly, not for the largest passenger airplane in the world.

The airline said it is working to reroute the passengers to Los Angeles.
