Ryanair has just cancelled even more flights

Almost 400,000 passengers to be affected by further Ryanair schedule changes in the coming months

By announcing the flight cancellations now, the airline will not have to pay any fines it might have had to pay had it waited, and many analysts had viewed the potential acquisition of Alitalia as a bad fit.

"We have made this crystal clear to Ryanair, which is aware of its legal obligations, which includehow and when it should reroute passengers, along with the level of information it provides its passengers".

The regulatory body says it contacted the airline earlier this month for reassurance that customers would be provided with accurate information regarding their rights and entitlements.

More than 30 other routes are affected - including London Stansted to Edinburgh and Glasgow, Newcastle to Faro, and Glasgow to Las Palmas.

The airline has sent the offer as a "goodwill gesture" to customers, whose travel plans were disrupted by the mass cancellation of 2,100 flights over a six-week period.

The airline initially blamed a rota mistake, leading to a shortage of available pilots. This amounts to about 18,000 flights.

Ryanair said it has emailed all of the affected customers offering them the choice between a refund or an alternative flight.

Ryanair has said it will slow its growth this winter by flying 25 less aircraft, from its 400-strong fleet, from November until March.

United States has significant issues with Iran N-deal: Tillerson
The JCPOA, Rouhani said, is an worldwide agreement conducive to regional and global security and stability. Tillerson was asked later whether he could have a similar discussion with a North Korean representative.

The regulator said it was also taking enforcement action against five big-name airlines - including Etihad and American AIrlines (Frankfurt: A1W97M - news) - for allegedly denying compensation for delayed flights as part of an ongoing investigation.

Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary last week sought to address the airline's problems with a first wave of 315,000 cancellations.

It doesn't feel that the airline is doing enough to tell people about their rights under European Union law if their flight has been cancelled.

Ryanair may be causing even more travel disruption this winter as it announces a reduced flight schedule will operate between November and March 2018.

Ryanair said Wednesday slower growth going forward will create "lots of spare aircraft and crews" across its 86 bases this winter. They were also offered €40 ($47) travel vouchers that can be used between October 2017 and March 2018.

European safety regulations that take effect January 1 and require all airlines to use a regular calendar year for calculating pilot flight hours and working days.

The flight cancellations have so far cost the airline around £21 million.
