Coroner's report deepens mystery of Otto Warmbier's death

Otto Warmbier

Three Americans accused of various crimes against the state are behind bars in the North, which is engaged in a tense standoff with the Trump administration over its banned missile and nuclear weapons programs.

"It looked like someone had taken a pair of pliers and rearranged his bottom teeth", Fred Warmbier told Fox.

Mr Warmbier's body had multiple scars varying in size, including a large irregular one measuring 11 centimetres by 4 centimetres on the right foot, the report said.

The manner of death was "undetermined".

The Warmbiers said they had made a decision to speak out now partly because they were aghast at efforts by the North Korean government to portray itself as the victim of USA aggression in the unfolding crisis over the North's nuclear weapons and missile testing. "They're terrorists", he said. He was blind, he was deaf. But the case remains mysterious, as Otto's parents elected not to undertake a post-mortem examination, while the local news outlet The Cincinnati Enquirer said it had obtained a coroner's report on Warmbier which suggested no damage that would amount to evidence of torture, as BBC News reported.

The parents of a young Ohioan who was detained for more than a year and died soon after being released by North Korea are describing his condition when he arrived home as they blast "terrorists" they say tortured him.

Otto Warmbier's parents have called for North Korea to be classified as a state sponsor of terrorism, after they claim it "systematically tortured" and "injured" their son.

Treatment restores signs of awareness in brain-injured man
The team reports that the auto crash victim presented significant improvements in his brain activity , attention, and movements. As the BBC writes, within a month a man could respond to simple commands, turn his head and follow an object with his eyes.

The parents of a United States student who died after being jailed in North Korea say their son was "systematically tortured" and "destroyed" by the authoritarian regime.

As the Warmbiers declined an autopsy, the coroner's investigation was ultimately limited in its findings.

Warmbier went to North Korea on a youth trip and was arrested January 2, 2016, in Pyongyang for stealing a poster from a hotel.

Otto Warmbier had been sent back to America just a few days before his death from North Korea for medical reasons. However, the coroner's office found a scar that "we really couldn't explain through medical instrumentation", Sammarco said.

The coroner's report lists Warmbier's death as resulting from complications of chronic anoxic encephalopathy, which involves a loss of brain function due to brain tissue being deprived of oxygen.

"Although we had no reason at all to show mercy to such a criminal of the enemy state, we provided him with medical treatments and care with all sincerity on a humanitarian basis until his return to the USA", the North argued after Warmbier's death.

Doctors have little information about what happened to him prior to his release as they've had no contact with North Korean medical authorities.
