President Trump, Kim Jong Un Exchange Insults Following Trump's Speech At UN

North Korea's Han Kwang-song kicks the ball during an AFC Asian cup qualifier match with Hong Kong

DONALD TRUMP'S threat to annihilate North Korea if the U.S. is provoked has been described as "the sound of a dog barking" by Pyongyang's foreign minister. However, one plausible approach is to encourage South Korea and Japan to begin to develop nuclear weapons programs of their own, and to only discontinue these programs if China takes meaningful steps to use its trade with North Korea to reign in the regime. The room for error would be minimal, and any mistake could be disastrous.

China's move to halt North Korean coal imports in February and its decision to stop selling fuel have crimped Pyongyang's ability to raise hard currency through exports.

Speaking in front of a crowd in Alabama, US, Trump told told the audience he would deal with North Korea.

Pyongyang's stated aim is to be able to target the USA mainland and the nation has flaunted the advances in its weapons programme in recent weeks, with the September test of what it said was a miniaturised H-bomb capable of being loaded onto a rocket.

Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho spoke to reporters in NY during the UN General Assembly shortly after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made an unprecedented televised statement, accusing Trump of being "mentally deranged".

After the North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, said President Donald Trump would "pay dearly" for threatening to "totally destroy" North Korea if the USA were forced to defend itself or its allies against a North Korean attack, Kim's foreign minister told reporters his country's response to Trump "could be the most powerful detonation of an H-bomb in the Pacific". "It made you proud to be an American", he said.

Evans Revere, a former State Department official and expert on East Asia, said Friday he believes the North is intent on launching an intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM, like the Hwasong-14 on a combat trajectory to determine the survivability of a mock warhead. He says the US keeps pressing Russian Federation and China to do more to squeeze Pyongyang economically.

For the nuclear missile to reach a remote part of the Pacific, it would have to fly over Japan, as the North did with two Hwasong-12 test launches in recent weeks.

N Korean missiles passing over Japan must not become routine
Nikki Haley told CBS News the United States had lots of military options on North Korea that stop short of destroying the country. Instead, he said, the worldwide community should strictly implement the sanctions imposed on North Korea by the U.N.

This was an important signal of China's willingness to support USA concerns about the missile program since oil represents about a third ($930 million) of North Korea's import revenue.

The quake was detected in Kilju county in North Hamgyong Province, where North Korea's known Punggyeri nuclear site is located, the official said.

North Korea is the likely topic of discussion when Trump holds separate talks later Thursday with South Korean President Moon Jae-in (jah-yihn) and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (shin-zoh AH'-bay).

No nation on Earth has an interest in seeing this band of criminals arm itself with nuclear weapons and missiles. Sort of, hundreds of years ago, according to Merriam-Webster. "I don't think so". Nuclear weapons are the most powerful devices ever developed by human beings. Satellite photos of the area after the Sept 3 quake showed numerous landslides apparently caused by the massive blast, which North Korea said was a hydrogen bomb.

The United States and the former Soviet Union combined to conduct more than 400 atmospheric nuclear tests before they joined Britain in a 1963 treaty banning tests in the atmosphere, outer space and underwater. The USGS measured this month's nuclear test at magnitude 6.3.

While the impact of previous tests hasn't been fully understood, damage from radioactive fallout could be serious.

Where are the world's nuclear weapons?
