Mark Zuckerberg Outlines Facebook's Plan to Fight Russian Election Hacking

Facebook to Provide to Congress 3000 Ads Bought by a Russian Agency

Meanwhile, Facebook has agreed to release the 3,000 ads it had identified as having been purchased by accounts associated with a Russian organization called the Internet Research Agency (and which might have played a role in shaping results of the election).

Zuckerberg said he directed his team Thursday morning to provide the ads that the company had found to Congress and said the company is conducting a "thorough review" into what happened.

Zuckerberg said that, similar to political ads on television or the radio, banners on Facebook will now have to disclose what page is paying for them.

Zuckerberg laid out nine steps that he said Facebook was taking to deter governments from using the world's largest social network to interfere with elections.

In his speech, Zuckerberg said Facebook would also create a "new standard" for transparency in political advertising so users can better understand which pages are paying for ads. We subsequently made clear that we are providing information related to those ads, including the ad content itself, to the Special Counsel investigating allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 United States election.

Rahul admits UPA government failed on jobs, praises 'Make in India' policy
There is a belt of 100 million tribal people who do not feel comfortable with the vision (of the BJP), he said. When asked what he thought was the central challenge facing the country, Gandhi said it was the lack of jobs.

He said Facebook would continue to investigate attempts by Russian Federation and other "foreign actors" to use the site to interfere in other countries' elections.

Rather, the ads and accounts appeared to focus on amplifying divisive social and political messages across the ideological spectrum - touching on topics from LGBT matters to race issues to immigration to gun rights. "I don't want anyone to use our tools to undermine democracy".

"As a general rule, we are limited in what we can discuss publicly about law enforcement investigations, so we may not always be able to share our findings publicly", he said.

The leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee have been seeking to bring Facebook executives before their committee since the company first revealed the existence of the ads two weeks ago.

On Wednesday, Twitter confirmed that it would meet next week with staff of the Senate Intelligence committee, which has been scrutinizing the spread of false news stories and propaganda on social media during the election. But Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the top Democrat on the committee, and other lawmakers had criticized the company for refusing to turn over the materials that it had given to Mueller.
