Tillerson Considering Closing Cuban Embassy Over Mysterious Sonic Attacks

"We have it under evaluation", Tillerson said Sunday in response to five senators suggesting shuttering the embassy.

"It's under review", Tillerson told CBS "Face the Nation" host John Dickerson. We've brought some of those people home.

"We ask that you immediately declare all accredited Cuban diplomats in the United States persona non grata and, if Cuba does not take tangible action, close the U.S. Embassy in Havana", the senators wrote.

In recent months, they've been under attack at their hotels and at least 21 have fallen ill.

Former President Barack Obama re-established ties with the Caribbean island nation two years ago, a move that has been criticized and threatened by his successor Donald Trump.

The American Foreign Service Association - the labor union representing USA diplomatic and worldwide aid personnel - spoke to 10 of those who received treatment and said their diagnoses included mild traumatic brain injury and permanent hearing loss.

The State Department said in August that Americans linked to the US embassy in Havana had experienced physical symptoms from "incidents" involving sound waves.
