Strong and blustery winds set to batter the country tomorrow

GETTY
HAVOC Strong winds and downpours have been forecast from today

Heavy rain is expected later on Tuesday and early on Wednesday across parts of Northern Ireland and southern Scotland.

Forecasters believe the winds could cause travel disruption, power cuts and damage to buildings in the coming days.

Although the forecast looks quieter for the rest of Monday, Sky News weather presenter Isobel Lang said "wild and windy" conditions are set to return on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Gusts up to around 75mph could also be possible in exposed locations such as the coast and hills in these areas, the Met Office said.

The Met Office is warning of strong winds.

But strong winds are still expected and the Highways England warning applies to the whole of the UK.

Heavy rain and very strong winds with gusts of 55-65 miles per hour, possibly reaching 75 miles per hour in exposed areas, are expected in the East and West Midlands.

"This warning has been expanded in area and with the likelihood of "medium" impacts increased".

Western counties can expect a slightly drier day, however people are being warned to remember the wind warning if out driving or walking this evening.
