Nigeria in trouble as China prepares to ban petrol, diesel vehicles

China is planning to ban the production of diesel and petrol cars a move which is of serious source of concern for Nigeria

Now it's seeking to cut back on its reliance on imported oil, as the world's second-largest consumer, behind the US.

Xin Guobin, China's vice minister of Industry and Information Technology, was quoted by media as saying that the move would profoundly affect the path of the country's auto industry.

Though Xin gave no details on the timeframe, he said, "The measures would surely bring profound changes to the sector's development".

Liu Zhijia, assistant general manager at China's largest passenger vehicle exporter Chery Automobile Company, said, "The implementation of the ban for such a big market like China can be later than 2040".

But consideration of a ban is yet more evidence of China's honest desire to transition away from fossil fuels.

N+1 Singer Reaffirms "Buy" Rating for N Brown Group plc (BWNG)
The stock of RSA Insurance Group plc (LON:RSA) has "Hold" rating given on Friday, February 26 by Deutsche Bank. Among 29 analysts covering Lloyds Banking Group PLC ( LON:LLOY ), 19 have Buy rating, 5 Sell and 5 Hold.

Britain said in July that it would ban sales of diesel- and petrol-fuelled cars by 2040, two weeks after France announced a similar plan to reduce air pollution and meet targets to keep global warming below 2 deg C. More than a dozen cities, including sprawling Beijing and Shanghai, have already taken steps to encourage sales of electrified vehicles.

A ban would be a boon for China's electric auto industry, and could have a huge impact on the country's notoriously terrible air quality. Additionally, UK has also given the same timeline which indicates that China is not going to be the only country to cease the sale of traditional fuel cars. On the other hand, the automakers are quite keen to manufacture electric vehicles as they look forward to sell electric or hybrid cars in the future.

Increased demand in China from a top-down ban would only add momentum to a worldwide explosion in electric vehicles.

Volvo will introduce its first 100-percent electric auto in China in 2019, while Ford will market its first hybrid vehicle in early 2018 and envisions 70 percent of all Ford cars available in China will have electric options by 2025.

Chinese-owned Volvo recently announced it will produce only electrified drivetrains - in hybrid, plug-in and BEV form - for all new models launched in 2018 and beyond. This has already allured a lot of global companies like Ford, VW, Nissan, etc.to form joint ventures with Chinese carmakers.
