Stop ethnic cleansing of Rohingya Muslims

Over 360000 Demand Revocation of Myanmar Leader's Nobel Peace Prize

It adds to the increasing worldwide criticism the de facto leader of Myanmar - also known as Burma - has faced over her handling of the situation facing Rohingya Muslims in the country's Rakhine state.

It also wants the United Nations to warn the Myanmarese authorities that they will face severe sanctions unless they put an end to the brutal campaign against the Rohingya community.

According to Benedict Rogers, there is evidence that Muslims have been living in Rakhine state in Myanmar since the 9th century and a significant number of those Muslims immigrated to British Burma from then India and now Bangladesh in the early 20th century.

Rohingya refugees have been setting up makeshift camps that abut larger, more established ones.

The day after the BHRN media presentation, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, making his first official visit to neighboring Myanmar, pledged Indian support to fight cross-border Islamic terrorism.

"I think we can't even imagine for a second what it's like when your citizenship, your right to live in a country, is completely denied", said Malala. Myanmar's government says 30,000 non-Rohingya have also been displaced by the conflict.

On Thursday, former South African archbishop Desmond Tutu urged Ms Suu Kyi to intervene to stop the persecution of the Rohingya.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has promised to raise the plight of the Rohingya at the UN General Assembly on September 19.

Ready-to-use home-made explosives found in Paris suburb
The vehicle used by the assailants in Cambrils had been in the Paris area less than a week before the attacks. The Paris daily Le Parisien reported that the workman was a plumber working to fix a recurrent leak.

And this is just a tip of the iceberg.

The United Nations says that almost 164,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh over the past two weeks to escape a massive security sweep and alleged atrocities by the country's security forces and Buddhist mobs.

There are about 1 million Rohingya Muslims in Burma and they have for several years complained of being victims of persecution from the state.

What is even more worrying is that the plight of the Rohingya will follow the same farcical and inhuman path that so many Syrians have suffered recently: that is, both Russian Federation and China might once again use their veto power to protect the government of Myanmar from censure and condemnation at the UN Security Council.

"You watched the situation that Myanmar and Muslims are in ..."

The Myanmar government claims about 400 people have been killed so far, though United Nations officials estimate the death toll to be more than 1,000.

Rohingya fleeing to Bangladesh have reported being ordered to leave Myanmar under the threat of death. All three Muslim neighbors of Myanmar practice a very moderate form of Islam compared to their Middle Eastern counterparts, and this issue has the potential to empower the smaller extremist groups in their countries. The Myanmar government instead refers to them as Bengalis, tying them rhetorically to populations in Bangladesh with whom they share closer linguistic, religious and ethnic similarities. But we are also against any killing whether it is by the Buddhists or by the Muslims. Statistics released from the 2014 census indicate that the number of homeless across the country have reached nearly one million and tremendous housing deprivations exist across the country. But for someone who was once an inspiration, how radically she has refused to point out the plight of the Rohingya population in Myanmar!

It is a shame that some of the world leaders are mostly silent as their economic interest is more important than a few hundred thousand dead and refugee Rohingya Muslims.
