RK Singh Takes Over As New Power & New Renewable Energy Minister

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today elavated to the cabinet rank

"From time to time we have had the chance to work together", said Goyal, whose formal taking over was attended by Prabhu at Rail Bhavan.

The Cabinet reshuffle on Sunday saw Suresh Prabhu being moved to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry from his earlier designation as Railway Minister.

Prabhu had not attended office after August 23, when he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and offered to resign after the accidents last month.

Both his parents have been associated with the BJP, with his father Late Vedprakash Goyal being the Union Minister of Shipping in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Later, Goyal held a meeting with the Railway Board Members.

He also described Prabhu as his elder brother and said that it is an emotional moment for him as "Prabhu is my mentor".

Pipelines that had to shut down for precautionary measures are in the process of coming back or have already started up again. You still have a lot of time to get gasoline before Hurricane Irma gets here, but prices haven't finished climbing.

On the other hand, Goyal's stint as the power and coal minister has been a fruitful one, bringing in a sea change in the critical power sector.

All this, he said, had turned the Railways into a vibrant organization.

Speaking to journalists, Goyal said, "The focus of the Rail Ministry will continue to be safety and convenience of passengers". I wish him all the best and all the success.

Prior to this, he was Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Ministries of Power; Coal; New and Renewable Energy & Mines.

"I am confident that he would contribute to the development of the nation", he said.
