Lawyers, students protest in Pulwama against Rohingya persecution

Pro-Rohingya rally in front of Myanmar Embassy in Moscow

Almost 125,000 mostly Rohingya refugees have entered Bangladesh since a fresh upsurge of violence in Myanmar on August 25, the United Nations said on Tuesday, as fears grow of a humanitarian crisis in the overstretched camps.

According to the report, government authorities have refused to issue national identification cards for many Muslims from all ethnicities, denying them access to Islamic places of worship in some areas. The latest violence began on Aug 25, when Rohingya insurgents reportedly attacked dozens of police posts and an army base.

Foreign Minister Anifah Aman also said in a statement today that Malaysia was gravely concerned over the continuous violence perpetrated against the Rohingyas in the Rakhine state. The group claims to support Rohingya rights - the same rights that all Myanmar citizens enjoy - and greater autonomy within the Myanmar state. Around 40,000 Rohingyas are said to be staying illegally in India.

Malaysia on Tuesday summoned the Myanmar ambassador in a rare diplomatic rebuke in Southeast Asia to voice its "deep concern" over the spiralling violence against the Rohingya Muslim minority.

The 18-year-old provided The Associated Press with cellphone photographs she took Tuesday along the beach in southern Maungdaw township in Rakhine state.

On Monday, Pakistan called for an end to the "systematic" and "organised" violence against Muslim minority residents of the Rakhine state.

"So no one should teach India the lesson on how to deal with refugees", he said.

Myanmar's military has indiscriminately killed hundreds of Rohingya Muslims since last October.

Denis Shapovalov's US Open adventure ends with fourth round defeat
The Frenchman had upset 20th seed Albert Ramos Vinolas in the second round, but never looked in danger of beating Carreno Busta. Carreno Busta, in contrast, chose his moments when to attack, though his heavy ball-striking regularly drove Shapovalov back.

The ongoing persecution of the Rohingya population in Myanmar once again highlights the pathetic condition of the stateless ethnic group.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi met her Myanmar counterpart and de facto head of the country's government, Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi and the head of the country's armed forces Min Aung Hlaing at Naypyidaw on Monday and urged the protection of the Rohingya community.

"Thousands of people, regardless of being a woman, child or elderly are being killed".

Unverifiable testimony from those who have fled has alleged tit-for-tat mass killings and villages being torched by the army, Buddhist mobs and Rohingya militants. "Given the risks that the Rohingya face in Myanmar, forcibly returning them would be unconscionable", said Aakar Patel.

Pakistani Nobel Prize holder Malala Yousafzai has also condemned the unfortunate situation and sought from her fellow Nobel laureate to speak against it.

"The Burmese government has a duty to investigate the August attacks and bring those responsible to justice".

Other world leaders, including senior United Nations figures, have also spoken out with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urging restraint and Yanghee Lee, the UN special rapporteur on the human rights situation in Myanmar, saying the situation is "perhaps the worst.in Myanmar in a long time".
