Vice President speaks outside Rockport church devastated by Harvey

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump walk from Marine One to board Air Force One at Andrews Air Force Base Md. Tuesday Aug. 29 2017 for a trip to Texas to get an update on Harvey relief efforts

Vice President Mike Pence says the Trump administration expects Congress to "move quickly" to send federal cash to people and businesses in Hurricane Harvey's disaster zone.

Pence said he wanted Texans to know that President Trump and the American people "are with you".

"We are here today, we will be here tomorrow and we will be here every day until this city and this state and this region rebuild bigger and better than ever before", Pence said. Pence stopped by a church that was badly damaged by the storm, First Baptist Church, where he was joined by evangelical pastor Franklin Graham.

Karen Pence, the vice president's wife, is leading the attendees in a prayer.

Speaking with Governor Greg Abbott, Pence indicated he had spoken to the president earlier that day. The vice president was joined by several Cabinet members and shook hands and greeted people outside the storm-damaged church.

Labour's leader in Scotland quits
Doing their sums, the CfS concluded that the Scottish strategy, under the control of Ms Dugdale, had cost the party seats. Alex Rowley has become interim leader of the Scottish Labour Party, following Kezia Dugdale's resignation.

From Corpus Christi they made their way to Rockport, a small coastal town ravaged by the storm.

Pence will meet with residents, and get a firsthand view of devastation in Rockport which was one of the first places that got hit.

At a news conference with Abbott, Pence told reporters that Trump will return to Texas on Saturday with first lady Melania Trump, and will travel to "Houston and other destinations" within the state.

The visit came just two days after President Trump visited Corpus Christi and Austin, meeting with state and local officials but forgoing any tour of damage or in-person meetings with those now homeless because of Harvey. "He literally and figuratively waved the flag", Perry said, noting the president's impromptu remarks to supporters gathered outside a Corpus Christi fire station that were capped with his waving of the Texas flag.
