IS convoy reaches east Syria after ceasefire

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcoming UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem

USA officials said the airstrikes to disrupt the fleeing militants were meant to send a strong signal that the deal, while helping to clear IS from the border, undermined a broader US -led strategy for defeating the group in Syria and Iraq.

The US-led coalition against Isis has carried out an air strike to stop jihadists evacuated from fighting in Lebanon from reaching militant strongholds in east Syria, Central Command has said.

The coalition "will not rule out strikes against IS fighters being moved", Dillon said, adding, "we are not party to any agreements that were made by the Lebanese Hezbollah and ISIS or the (Syrian) regime".

Col. Dillon told the AP that Wednesday's airstrike hit vehicles identified as belonging to ISIS that were traveling from ISIS-held territory toward the convoy.

The Syrian army and the Lebanese Hezbollah group, which has been fighting alongside President Bashar Assad's forces in Syria since 2013, have been waging their own separate but simultaneous offensive to pressure the Islamic State on the Syrian side of the border.

They are being relocated to Al Bukamal on the Iraq-Syria border in eastern Deir ez-Zor province, part of the middle Euphrates River valley, home to the largest concentration of ISIS militants in Iraq and Syria. We, neither the Lebanese army, nor the Syrian army, agreed to a ceasefire.

Judge Dismisses Palin's Defamation Suit Against NYT For Political Violence Op-Ed
This just wasn't the case in the case of the gun violence editorial, Judge Rakoff wrote. He also noted the Times subsequently issued a correction.

The evacuations angered the Iraqi government, which accused Hezbollah and Syria of landing militants on its border with Syria rather than "eradicating" the jihadis.

The coalition is reluctant to strike the actual convoy of evacuees because the fighters have wives and children traveling with them, said a US official, who wasn't authorized to discuss military details and requested anonymity.

The ceasefire took effect on Sunday and saw a convoy of 308 militants with small arms and 331 civilians leave the border area under Syrian army escort.

Iraqi forces, who retook Mosul from ISIL, or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant group, in July after a nine-month battle, are fighting the last pocket of fighters in the northern province of Nineveh.

US troops reportedly exchanged fire with Syrian rebels in northern Syria this month, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing the USA -led coalition. The spokesman for the US -led coalition backing the SDF said earlier this month that there are 24,000 Arabs and 31,000 Kurds in the alliance. The U.S. officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to talk to reporters. Remains of several people have been uncovered in the border area, and DNA tests are underway to determine whether they belong to the missing soldiers.

Syrian Al-Ikhbariya TV said the Syrian government approved the transfer of militants to Boukamal to facilitate the talks over the fate of the soldiers. Lebanese officials say they are nearly sure they are. "Either to go on with the battle and not know the fate of the soldiers or give in and know the fate of the soldiers", Aoun said.
